2026

November 2, 2026. Version 1.4. The first figure in chapter 23 (Public Performance, Display & Transmission) was the wrong diagram: the Sony safe-harbor spectrum from chapter 24 had been saved under the filename of the cable rebroadcast flowchart when the diagrams were converted in August. The flowchart illustrating Fortnightly and Teleprompter under the 1909 Act is restored, and both diagrams are now reproduced at higher resolution. No text has changed.

October 30, 2026. The PDF of version 1.3 carried the previous version line on its "About this book" page, so it described itself as version 1.2 of September 16. Only that line has changed; the text is otherwise identical to the October 7 file. With thanks to Emory University Libraries for catching it.

October 7, 2026. Version 1.3. Chapter 18 (Moral Rights) has a new introduction that brings the international framework, Berne Article 6bis, the TRIPs carve-out, the WPPT and the Beijing Treaty, into the opening of the chapter, and the comparative section that used to close the chapter has been removed. The section on the American patchwork approach has been rewritten around Gilliam v. American Broadcasting Cos. (2d Cir. 1976), the Monty Python case, as the lead-in to Dastar.

September 16, 2026. Version 1.2. Chapter 26 adds the Ninth Circuit’s decision in Doe v. GitHub, Inc. (2026) on copyright management information claims against a generative AI coding tool. The earlier district court decisions in Andersen v. Stability AI and Tremblay v. OpenAI now appear in the notes.

September 2026. aicopyright.ai launched with the 2026 Edition, version 1.1 (August 23, 2026). Every chapter is available online at a permanent address, alongside the PDF.
